Be Part of Something Special

The ANA Rowing Club is dedicated to fostering a love for rowing in individuals of all ages and skill levels. Our inclusive and supportive community saw ANA crowned Rowing Australia’s Club of the Year and then Rowing WA's "Champion Club of the Year 2023".  By participating in the Corporate Challenge, your company can join this vibrant community and enjoy the numerous benefits of rowing. Located at AP Hinds Reserve in Bayswater near the Garratt Road Bridge, ANA has access to the best rowing water in Perth. We also have a shed at the international standard rowing course at Champion Lakes located in the City of Armadale.

My Personal Journey with Rowing

My inspiration to take up rowing began with my son Jacob, who started rowing for Hale School when he was in Year 8. Every Saturday and school holidays during the season, I would walk with other mums while the boys trained, often passing the UWA boat shed. Intrigued and motivated, we started Learn to Row at UWA in March 2019. I moved to ANA Rowing Club later in 2019, drawn by the fantastic conditions and the inclusive program they offered for the more mature novice rower.

Rowing quickly became a significant part of our family life, Jacob was part of the first VIII in Years 11 and 12.  He participated in the PSA Head of the River in February 2022, during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, where his first VIII crew missed out on winning by a cat's whisker! Jacob's commitment and dedication to rowing are truly commendable, having competed in two Australian Rowing Championships and winning a silver medal in the under 21 double scull in Perth, at just 18 years of age. His commitment and leadership qualities have been recognised, leading to his election as Vice Captain of Fremantle Rowing Club.

My daughter Emily also started rowing in Year 8 at school and recently competed in the IGSSA Head of the River, where her first VIII crew placed second.

Rowing has been a god-sent for me in recent years.  When I come off the water I feel alive and ready to tackle the day.  I’ve met a great bunch of ladies – we’re called the Pink Ladies and some of the blokes are pretty cool too.  On a Friday morning after our row we typically have a coffee and wax lyrical about rowing and what’s been happening in our lives.  Our Pink Ladies crew were videoed as part of the Move More campaign - do you recognise the rower in 4 seat? 🖤🤍

Last year I joined Masters Rowing and won my first-ever medal!  I have since added a couple of medals, the most recent being for the Guildford to Garrett head race.  Recently I competed in the Perth to Fremantle head race which was heaps of fun.

I coached many a Learn to Row crew recruiting a number of rowers to ANA.  I have also assisted with the Making Waves out-reach program.  The program aims to build young people’s confidence and self-belief.  No matter who you are, or where you come from, you can achieve anything you set your mind to!  Witnessing young people who say they can’t or are scared to get in a boat and learn to row is so rewarding!
